Now in his sophomore season with the organization, Tre Jones is looking to have another great season with the Blue Devils with another shot at winning a National Championship. Despite the team coming up short in the Elite 8 a season ago, Jones played in some key moments last season under Coach K and was a big difference maker when he was on the floor with his teammates.
Although the team lost big players last season in Zion Williamson, RJ Barrett, and Cam Reddish, The Duke Blue Devils have once again an entirely new team filled with new talent and guys transitioning to the college level of basketball. And with a lot of new freshmen alongside being his 2nd year with the team, Jones is going to be known as one of the vets on the team as he has a chance to use his experience thus far to help the younger guys succeed through the year.
Jones has shown much energy through the first couple weeks of the season. He has been the defensive pest that we all know him to be and has shown to be a difference maker for these young guys on the team. His offense has also shown much improvement as he is averaging 17 points a game while shooting 48% from the field. One of his noticeable games this season is scoring 31 points against the Georgia State Panthers on November 15.
There is at least one person who believes in Jones and his leadership to the team; and that’s Coach K! After his 31 point game performance, Coach raved about Jones play this season and believes that he is a guy that everyone should keep their eye on. “Look he’s one of the best players in the country.” Coach K stated in the post game press conference. That was a mouthful to say about your starting Point Guard, but we are sure that Coach stays by his words and he expects a lot out of his veteran point guard throughout the year.
With new recruits to the team as Cassius Stanley, Wendell Moore Jr, and even Vernon Carey Jr, Duke is looking to be a huge threat in the ACC and the entire NCAA as they are always known for. Just like all great teams have, they always have the veteran leadership on the floor to step in and guide players to the right directions; and that’s the role that Jones will play for the Blue Devils this season. Expect Jones to continue to put up decent numbers this season which will hopefully lead to a much successful season for Duke.
