Kentucky is looking to have a strong season this year. Sitting at number 2 on the overall ranks, it’s no question that this team is looking forward to put the country on notice throughout the year. Head Coach John Calipari seems to look forward to leading this group of young men to having a successful season and hopefully lead to a national championship.
Throughout the past year, the school was able to recruit some key players who will make a huge difference for the team this season. One guy the Wildcats recruited is combo guard Tyrese Maxey out of Garland, Texas. Maxey was ranked number 10 in the country and is an exceptional two way player. Maxey has the ability to get to the rim and even dish it out to teammates for assists. He will be one of the players that Coach Calipari will look to for leadership on the court as this team assembles together to win a national championship this season.
Another exceptional player that the Wildcats received this year is another exceptional guard in Khalil Whitney who graduated from Roselle Catholic High School in New Jersey. Whitney was one rank lower than Maxey being 11 on the recruiting list in the country. Unlike Maxey who is a phenomenal combo guard, Whitney brings more athleticism to the floor. He has a very solid jumper from inside and outside the arc as well as finishing in the paint. Whitney has very high expectations this upcoming season playing for the Wildcats and we hope to see him provide exceptional play throughout the course of the season.
The Wildcats will have key contributors to play alongside these two young talented player. Alongside Maxey and Whitney, the Wildcats were also able to recruit Keion Brooks from Indiana and even Johnny Juzang out of California. With these young freshmen talents alongside some returning players in Nick Richards, Ashton Hagans, etc. the Wildcats believe they are loaded with talent as they go into this season hungry and ready for competion.
Head Coach Calipari is extra motivated to Coach this season after he agreed to a lifetime contract to the school. Despite the contract, Calipari is looking to take this team beyond measures and improve as a team going into the season. “I’m really happy with where we are right now” Calipari stated during his summer press conference. Calipari seems very excited to be with a talented group of guys this season and will hopefully make this season for the best.
Kentucky will have a number of tests to go through for the course of the season. Having to play top teams as in Auburn and their rivals Louisville, the Wildcats will have much adveristy to face and hopefully they will have the ability to overcome them and hold their crown as one of the top teams in the country. It will be a very exciting season for both John Calipari and these group of young men throughout the year.
